How to use PuTTY on Webserve

The steps below will describe how to log in to your account using PuTTY Secure Shell Client.

1. Open the PuTTY client:

You may do so by double clicking the icon on your desktop
PuTTY Client Icon:                       

Note: If you do not have PuTTY Client, you can download it from IUware Online.

2. Type the following:
Host Name: webserve.iu.edu
Click on Open.

3. You may retain your settings by entering a session name and clicking Save.

4. Type the following:

Login as: [account_name]
password: [passphrase]

Replace [account_name] with the name of your web account. For most, the name of the account appears after the tilde (~) in the URL for that account. Enter the passphrase for your Webserve account in the password field.

5. You will be at the command prompt. You may now enter in Unix commands to work with your account.
